History of the Troupe

The St. Nicholas Dance Troupe was founded by St. Nicholas parishioner Georgia Johnson in 1983.  Georgia taught the love of Greek folk dancing to generations of youth throughout her many years of service to the community.  In 2023, after 40 years of devotion to growing and leading the dance troupe in the love of Greek folk dancing, Georgia retired.  We thank and appreciate Georgia for all her years of dedication!

About the Troupe

We invite you to experience the spirit of Greece through traditional and modern dance. The program offers instruction and performance opportunities for children and adults of all ages. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn Greek dances, enjoy Greek music, and experience a wonderful fellowship with other parishioners.

Performances

Our St. Nicholas Greek Dance Troupe consist of dancers of all ages that can be seen showcasing their skills at not only our annual Labor Day Greek Festival and the Taste of St. Nicholas, but also at various cultural events during the year.  We can be seen at public libraries, nursing homes, schools, and universities. Past performances include:

• Festival of the Nations - for over 26 years

• Ameren Festival

• Holiday at the Plaza - sponsored by Barnes Hospital to benefit children

• St. Louis Zoo

• St. Louis Art Museum

• The Muny

• Various events at Forest Park

• Scott Air Force Base in Illinois

Practice

Dance practices are held either at the Family Life Center or at St. Nicholas Church usually on a Sunday afternoon for the adults, and Tuesday evenings for the teens and younger children. We practice at various times throughout the year. Check with Demi Holt for exact details.
